Boy & Girl Scout Programs
Wildfowlers working with the Boy Scouts:
Sara Hayes and her Girl Scout Troop built wood duck boxes and had two of them placed at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, New York. Sara is the daughter of Joe (CNY Wildfowlers member) and Karen Hayes and the niece of longtime member, Bill Hayes. Great job to all the Girl Scouts involved in the project!
Wildfowlers Help Scout Attain Eagle Scout Badge
Wildfowlers aided Boy Scout Zack Robarts of Wellsville, NY. For his Eagle project, he had chosen to restore and place new boxes along the woods next to the Genesee River, south of Wellsville. He had a particular interest in hunting (including ducks) and the outdoors in general, so this project seemed of value to him. He had participated in a Wood Duck box cleaning and restoration project for a landowner near Bath, NY. This sparked an interest to do something similar in his area for his Eagle Scout Project.
Zack had investigated the area and found old boxes stamped with the CNY Wildfowlers stamp. Several years ago one of his troop leaders assisted another scout in a similar project. Zack also noticed that several of these old boxes were in need of repair and/or replacement. He had several other scouts who were willing to help him tackle this project. CNY Wildfowlers donated kits and valuable information to the Boy Scouts of Troop 733. Zack became an Eagle Scout November 8, 2009.
